Torture
As the U.S. grapples with whether or not waterboarding and other enhanced interrogation techniques amount to torture, a video coming out of the United Arab Emirates showing real torture is making news...
Royal Torture Video 'To Be Investigated'
Officials in the United Arab Emirates may investigate a member of the Abu Dhabi ruling family over a videotape showing a member apparently torturing another man.
The widely circulated footage is threatening to derail a multi-billion dollar nuclear deal between the US and the Gulf state.
The video appears to show Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahayan - brother of UAE president and Abu Dhabi ruler Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahayan - mercilessly beating a man in the desert. The man, said to be an Afghan trader accused of overcharging Sheikh Issa in a grain deal, is seen being beaten with a wooden panel with nails stuck in it. He is assaulted with a cattle prod and his genitals are set on fire before a 4x4 drives over his legs, apparently breaking them. A man in police uniform assists with the torture.
Torture Tape Implicates UAE Royal Sheikh
A video tape smuggled out of the United Arab Emirates shows a member of the country's royal family mercilessly torturing a man with whips, electric cattle prods and wooden planks with protruding nails.
A man in a UAE police uniform is seen on the tape tying the victim's arms and legs, and later holding him down as the Sheikh pours salt on the man's wounds and then drives over him with his Mercedes SUV.
